Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was born and raised in Barcelona. Her eclectic music has earned her the title of "atypical pop star". When she was enthralled by Spanish folk music at the age of 13, she studied musicology at Catalonia College of Music while playing at music bars and weddings.She completed her studies with distinction due to the cover album she recorded with Raul Refree, Los Angeles (2017) as well as the Baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). Reimagining flamenco, mixing it with hip-hop and pop music, it produced the singles "Malamente" and "Pienso en the Mirror" which caught the attention of the Spanish general public and were released to universal reviews. El Mal Querer was the first artist to bring Rosalia to the international music stage. Her third album, Motomami (2022) she gave reggaeton a fresh twist, departing slightly from the flamenco style of her first album. With singles "La Fama"" and "Saoko", the album received a worldwide acclaim and was voted the best-rated album of the year by Metacritic. In her entire career, Rosalia has accumulated ten top-ten singles in her home country, the most for a local artist. Rosalia has received eleven Latin Grammy Awards, two Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards 4 MTV Europe Music Awards as well as three UK Music Video Awards, and two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard has awarded her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the sound of mainstream music with her flamenco-inspired pop"[18The award was presented to her in 18. She was also the first Spanish-singing artist to be nominated for the Grammys for Best New Artist.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She is the youngest of four children to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who owns a tiny metalworking company. Jose Manuel Vila, her father, was born in Cudillero. The couple divorced in the year 2019. She has a younger sister, Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative head. Rosalia was fascinated by performing arts from the age of five. She was able to discover the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She started her musical education at Taller de Musics. She completed a 6-year program at the academy. She started attending classes at the Raval school and later transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Also, she worked in a private capacity as a performer at weddings, bars for music and other functions. The pay was "a just over 80 euros or in exchange for a meal".
